Williams - Zachariah

Zachariah Williams, known to many Crawfordsville people as "Zack" Williams, died Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Bessie Hart, in Xenia, O. It is believed that he was about 92 years old but no record of his age is available. Death is believed to have been caused by the infirmities of age. It was reported that he had been ill for several months before he passed away. Mr. Williams was probably one of the best known characters in Crawfordsville, and it is believed that he was one of the oldest colored inhabitants at the time of his death. He had been visiting his daughter for the last three months when death claimed one of the most amusing characters ever known to citizens of this community. He was born in Kentucky and served in the civil war. For the last fifty years he lived here and made a vast number of friends, not only among his own people but he was known and admired by many others. The body was brought here and arrived at 1:30 this afternoon and was taken to the home on east Wabash avenue, where he had lived for many years. Funeral services will be held at the A.M.E. church Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock and will be conducted by Rev. C.S. Brown. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. hart, and one grandchild. His death marks the passing of one of the foremost negroes of Crawfordsville.
